Healthy Habits for the New Year

Healthy Habits for the New Year

Happy New Year! As 2020 wraps up and we move into another opportunity for a fresh, new beginning, many of us are making goals, wishes and resolutions to keep us inspired. Rather than the typical resolutions, like working out or journaling, we’re here to bring you a few new ideas for goals and habits that can help your mental health, and help you create room for more joy in your life!

Cook Something New

At least once a month, branch out and try something new! Food is a great way to bond with loved ones and explore your own creativity. Look for challenging recipes like handmade ravioli pasta or homemade bagels. Or, focus on unexpected flavor combinations. At the end of the year, you’re bound to have a number of new recipes you love, as well as upgraded cooking skills!

Take Up a New Hobby

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do? Stop making excuses! Instead, make time for it and dive right in. Variety is the spice of life! Use this year to try new things and find new activities you enjoy! Some examples include roller skating, gardening, painting, knitting, pottery and more… the opportunities are endless! Better yet, get someone to join in with you to better keep you accountable.

Get Outside More

In this day and age, we spend the majority of our time inside. However, being outside in the sunshine is known to have amazing benefits on both our mood and health. This year, we’re encouraging you to get more Vitamin D. On the weekends, take advantage of the weather by heading to the park or taking a hike. Instead of watching TV when you get home from work, sit outside for a while with a book. These little moments will add up, and we promise you’ll feel a difference in your mood!

Take the Declutter Challenge!

This January, take the infamous 31 day declutter challenge! On your first day of the challenge, you’ll get rid of one item. On the next day, you’ll get rid of two, and so on! At the end, you will have decluttered over 500 items! Less clutter means less stress, and less things to keep organized! The new year is always a great reminder to simplify our lives and get rid of the things we no longer need or use.

We hope some of these habits and resolutions inspire you to create some new, healthy habits!
