Do you struggle with a busy schedule? It can be a real challenge trying to juggle work, family, self-care, and hobbies with enough time to relax. Sometimes, even eating can feel like a chore! Many of our day-to-day schedules are so packed, the last thing we want to do when we get home is prepare a meal! We have a solution.
In an effort to allow you to eat healthy, save money on eating out and enjoy a home cooked meal, try your hand at meal prepping! By setting aside a few hours on your weekend, you can have a week’s worth of meals prepped and ready to go in your fridge! Not only will this save you a ton of time during the week, but also help preserve your energy! Your evenings will feel so much more relaxing when you know you can come home and have dinner made in a matter of minutes.
First things first… stock up on your containers! Depending on the size of your family and how many meals you want to prepare (1-2 per day), try and estimate how many containers you’ll need on a weekly basis. On average, you’ll need anywhere from 10-20 containers, in a variety of sizes. For example, if you have a larger family, you may even find that you need two large containers to store your dinners. Lunches, on the other hand, can be stored in single-serving containers. Glass containers are preferable, as they’re microwave safe and BPA free!
After you have your containers, it’s time to start planning! There are certain recipes that lend themselves to the meal prep method more so than others. To start, stick to recipes that allow you to prepare a lot of food at one time. For example, soups, curries and other one pot recipes are great, and store very well. Additionally, you can pre-chop items like potatoes or vegetables, and portion them out for quick-cooking. For lunches, make big batches of salads. With just a quick internet search, you’ll find an unlimited number of meal prep recipes for you to try out!
And there you have it! Meal prepping can truly simplify your life, all it takes is a little bit of planning and commitment!
